Instructions for Downloading Program Enhancements for ArcIMS Viewer

In order to view the Spatial Data Inventory System developed for this Digital Government Project, two programs must installed: JAVA plug-in and ESRI ArcIMS Viewer. In addition, Microsoft Internet Explorer must be the default Internet browser on your computer. Installation of Internet Explorer 6 may require download of WindowsNT 4.0 Service Pack 6a.

Because Netscape Communicator does not currently support scripting of applets, a feature that is critical for ArcIMS Manager to work, you must use Internet Explorer for the following download procedures. The following guide will allow you to check if Internet Explorer is already your default browser.

1. Open Internet Explorer.
2. Go to Tools: Internet Options and the Internet Options window will open.
3. Click the Programs tab in the Internet Options window. At the bottom of this screen, check the box "Internet Explorer should check to see whether it is the default browser."
4. Click the "Reset Web Settings" button and then click "Yes" in the Reset Web Settings window.
5. Click "OK" to close the Internet Options window.
If you have Internet Explorer 5 or 6 already installed on your computer, you can skip steps A and B below.
