How to Use the Spatial Data Inventory System

The Spatial Data Inventory System can be viewed at: http://gscrlig1.eng.ohio-state.edu/website/DGP_Erie

ALL layer names appearing on the right-hand side of the screen represent metadata about the data sets we have collected up to this point in the Lake Erie area for the Digital Government project. Clicking these names will give information about each layer along the Lake Erie shoreline (red). Layers include: tide gauges, USGS DLG, USGS DEM, USGS DOQ, USGS shoreline, and Lake Erie bathymetry and hydrography. As more data comes in we will update the system.

Dragging the mouse over the map (on different themes) will give one of the following default attributes:

  • Name of the tide gauge
  • Z-value for the bathymetry
  • Names of quadrangles for USGS DLG, USGS DEM and USGS DOQ
  • To identify detailed attributes for any of the following: USGS DLG, USGS DEM, USGS DOQ, aerial photo, DEM:
  • Choose the layer
  • Click on the identifier
  • Click on the shoreline (red line)
  • To identify attributes for any of the tide gauges:
  • Choose the tide gauge layer
  • Click on the identifier
  • Click on a tide gauge (yellow triangle)
  • To identify attributes of the bathymetry:
    • Choose the bathymetry layer
    • Click on the identifier
    • Click on the contour lines for Lake Erie (light blue)
