Summary

 

This meeting was devoted to discuss current stage of the project and the next year research tasks.

 

Tarig Ali reported that in this project he worked on two different tasks. The first task was to generate the Lake Erie erosion awareness system. The second task was generating and visualizing the shoreline quality metrics.  

 

Ruijin Ma reported that he worked on the ODNR coastal structure permitting system. He also worked on processing the satellite imagery for Lake Erie.

 

Xutong Niu reported that he worked on the data integration software and the mobile system.

 

Vasilia Velissariou reported that she received the satellite altimetry meta data. She reported that she received the location (latitude and longitude) and time for each altimetry observation. She reported that the water surface modeling program is not running now (since she has first to compare the results from the satellite altimetry and the model). She reported that she found a paper that describes how to use the tide gauge station data (this will help if in the future we need to add more stations). She reported that once she analyze the differences between the altimetry data and the model she will start running the program (it will take about 45 days to run a 10 year model). She also reported that she is preparing the gauge station data for the 20 years.

 

Xian Xu reported that he continued working on getting data from www.webgis.com.

• Center for Mapping:
  • Publishing the erosion awareness system and contacting the GIS department in Lake County to discuss with them the system and get their comments and suggestions on the system in order to improve it.
  • Visualization of the shoreline quality metrics (2-D and 3-D visualizations that combine the effects of all four metrics).
  • Developing a theoretical framework to study the spatial data completeness, temporal information accuracy, and attribute accuracy for linear features.
  • Implementing new applications for the spatial data completeness, temporal information accuracy, and attribute accuracy based on the developed theoretical framework.

• OSU Mapping and GIS Lab
  • Processing the aerial photos and satellite imagery for Tampa Bay.
  • Visiting the ODNR office and presenting the coastal structure permitting system in order to get comments and suggestions from the ODNR agencies and work on improving the system.
  • Integrating the ODNR system in the mobile wireless system.
  • Generating Tampa Bay shorelines from: DOQQ, Tsheet, USGS DLG.
  • Seagrass changes monitoring in Tampa Bay.
  • Completing the data integration work by including the shorelines, aerial and satellite photos, and DEM and using the system for the Tampa Bay dataset. 
  •  Visit NOAA's Office of Coastal Survey in June to get the water surface model software for Tampa Bay.
  • Publishing the ODNR system on the internet.

   

•  Great Lakes Forecasting System Laboratory

  ¡       Comparing the results of the altimetry data and the GLFS water model.

  ¡      Preparing the gauge station data and the meteorological data for the 20 years run.

  ¡      Running the GLFS model to obtain the 20 years mean, MLL, and MH water surfaces based on the results of the water surface comparison.

   

•  Laboratory for Space Geodesy & Remote Sensing

  ¡      Providing the available satellite altimetry tracks meta data in Lake Erie and Tampa Bay.

  ¡      Providing gauge station water levels in Tampa Bay.

  ¡      Providing radar DEM from the STRM mission.

  ¡      Conduct a Buoy surveying in Lake Erie.

  ¡      Analyzing the mean lake surface using multiple satellite altimetry tracks.

   

•  SUNY at Buffalo:

  ¡       Xian Xu will come to OSU after June 19, 2003 to discuss his research tasks and objectives.

  ¡       He will work on the following two tasks before he come:

              1. creating a browser such as the interface in ArcCatalog interface only with display of some data types. System will handle problems like where to find data and prepare it. Since HTTP is not doable sometimes, this part you could only focus on FTP transfer.

                    2. Downloading certain geo datasets automatically when the user gives position and data type.
