Summary
Vasilia Velissariou reported that she is working on analyzing the differences between the water surfaces computed from the GLFS model and the satellite altimetry data. Currently she found that each satellite altimetry point has a corresponding significant wave height that is used to compute the effective diameter for the point. The effective diameter can then be used to locate and select the corresponding grid points from the GLFS grid.
She is also investigating the best method to be used to average the water levels for the corresponding GLFS points. She also found that for the IB (Inverse Barometric) correction, the lake surface needs to be lowered by (-0.9948 cm per mb).
Chung-Yen Kuo reported that he computed the 10- and 20-year MHW, MLLW, and MW in Lake Erie at all gauge stations (Appendix A). He also computed the 10- and 20-year MHW, MLLW, and MW in Tampa Bay at the St. Petersburg gauge station (Appendix B). He also reported that he computed the means of the altimetry bins in Tampa Bay using the ERS-2 satellite (Appendix C) .
Xutong Niu reported that he is learning the Java3D software.
Tarig Ali reported that he is working on finishing his dissertation.
Great
Lakes Forecasting System Laboratory
¡ Comparing the results of the altimetry data and the GLFS water surface model. Vasilia Velissariou will contact Dr. Ei to get more information about the satellite altimetry and how the data is acquired. She will then decide on how to average the GLFS grid points.
Laboratory
for Space Geodesy & Remote Sensing
¡ Providing a water surface from the ERS-2 for Tampa Bay and comparing this water surface with the one generated from the tide gauge stations.
SUNY
at Buffalo:
¡ Xian Xu work on creating a browser in ArcCatalog interface to integrate his program with ArcCatalog.
¡ Xian Xu will work on modifying Ruijin's software so that it will be able to download DEM
remotely from the USGS web page and also download water levels from NOAA's web page.
§ Future Meetings:
o The next co-PI's and RAs meeting will be held Thursday, July 24, 2003.
o The next RAs only meeting will be Thursday, August 7, 2003.
