Attendees:
OSU Mapping & GIS Lab: Dr. Ron Li, Xutong Niu
Center for Mapping: Alok Srivastava
OSU Geodesy Lab: Chung-yen Kuo
Great Lakes Forecasting System Laboratory: Vasilia Velissariou
SUNY at Buffalo: Xian Xu (report by E-mail)
Summary:
In this meeting, Tampa Bay water surface modeling and preparations for submission of papers to the dg.o. 2004 conference were discussed.
Xutong showed the results of comparison between water levels in 2001 observed from four gauge stations inside Tampa Bay and one station (Clearwater Beach) outside the Bay (Appendix A). It can be seen that there is a time delay of from two-three hours in water-level change from the Clearwater Beach station to the four stations inside Tampa Bay. Before the meeting, Dr. Shum had looked at this result and suggested comparing longer period data sequences to find the correlations between these gauge stations and also comparing the relations between observations at Clearwater gauge station and the satellite altimetric data in Gulf of Mexico. Chung-yen was asked to prepare more gauge data and altimetric data for comparison.
Xian Xu reported by email on his progress in converting the ODNR system to a web-based version. He is working on converting DXF files submitted by the user to a shapefile so that the system can use ArcIMS to display the DXF on the web page.
Concerning submission of papers to the dg.o. 2004 conference, Dr. Li asked Xutong to write two papers: one on data comparison and one as a project summary. Chung-yen was asked to prepare a document on vertical Datum conversion from WGS84 to NAVD 88 and from IGLD 95 – NAVD 88. Vasilia was asked to prepare a document on comparison results between water surface and satellite altimetric data.
Dr. Li asked Vasilia to give her comparison results to Xutong so that he can input them into his Java3D visualization system in order to prepare a demo for the dg.o. 2004 conference. Results should include the differences between water surface model data and satellite altimetric observations at each spot with altimetric data. These data reflect the relationship between water surface and satellite altimetric data, and will be used for display with 3D water surfaces.
